I loved this book and this author has become one of my favorites!!! I read it through Kindle Unlimited and loved it so much I purchased it! Those are the only kind I will give 5 stars to. This may be my favorite book by this author and the writing is wonderful.Henley returns home after 8 years due to the unexpected death of her mother. She hasn't seen or spoken to her in all that time. Due to a tragedy she stayed away. She finds her mother left her the family farm. During this time of grief she also has to come to terms with the past life she left behind 8 years ago. Also waiting for her is Keaton Cash. He runs the neighboring farm and has always had a thing for her since the first time they met. I wasn't real sure about this book achieving the 5 stars but the twist in the end, that I never saw coming totally saved it! There is also a nice epilogue at the end.

It's a pleasure to see an author push herself to create a more complex tale, to deal with complicated issues, and to weave in serious themes with depth and meaning and heart.
That said, Hall still needs to overcome certain problems that make her seem an amateur yet. One is language—she still uses words incorrectly. For example, the heroine hopes the pie she serves is edible, as she'd set it down to “unthaw” only a few hours before.
Another element is loose threads. We're given information about the heroine's life in another place before the story opens, and as the story proceeds she decides to stay yet never does anything about possessions, responsibilities, a job, people in the old place.
Last amateurish issue is this the hero in this tale strongly resembles a hero from her other novels. Keaton Cash is just a countrified Sawyer Beckett, from his confident sexual innuendos to his wiggling eyebrows to his unusually large... ego.
I also have a plot complaint. This is probably a matter of preference where I disagree more than it is a flaw. The heroine makes a sentimental choice which permits a villain to escape justice and potentially harm others in the future. That is so irresponsible a choice in real life that it significantly reduced my pleasure in the story.
I love reading S.E. Hall's books. This is a great read.
Henley has been gone for the past 8 years. No contact with anyone from her hometown, including her mom. Now she's back because her mom passed away. There are so many memories, not all good. Henley still blames herself for her twin sister's accidental death. It broke her, that's why she was sent away. She couldn't handle it.
Being back could just break her even more.
Keaton has loved her since they were little kids. Now that she's back, it's game on. But she needs to heal first. Keaton does take care of her though.
When she arrives at her house, Gatlin is there. A farm hand. I will admit, I was hoping he would get a story.
I loved seeing all the changes in Henley because of Gatlin and Keaton. She really came out of her shell because of the help of these two.
The banter between Keaton and Henley was funny and will have you laughing. Yes, some of Henley's insults towards Keaton do date back to when they were little, but they were still funny to me.
I was not expecting that surprise that Keaton told us at the end. I was like, "what?? No!! Oh, that explains that". Sorry for being vague with it, but don't wanna give spoilers.
Unstable by S.E. Hall was the perfect combination of past and present, losses and love, friendships and foes. The comfort in a lifelong love returning home is felt throughout this story. Henley's pain, suffering and loss is grippingly sad, but the strength and courage she uses to face her past, deal with her present all to move forward toward her future is inspiring!
Keaton Cash is a cowboy who knows what he wants, is not afraid to put the work in to get it, but also has the patience of a saint waiting for life to catch up to what he already knew.
Childhood frienemies, Henley and Keaton clash, bicker, banter and quite simply get on the everlasting nerve, but history doesn't always repeat itself and sometimes people are destined to change their direction and forge a new plan and path.
A beautiful love story about overcoming the past, the wrongs, the losses and moving forward in love!
Once again, SE Hall's words have seeped into my soul.
I don't have many words to describe how reading SE Hall's books makes me feel. There is something about her writing that speaks to me and never once have I been let down by her work. This book is no different.
Full of heartache and regret, this book takes you on a journey with a broken girl in desperate need of forgiveness. Forgiveness from others, but more importantly, forgiveness from herself. She goes through life refusing to think about her past, while at the same time, unable to forget. Living in a day to day heartbreakingly numb shell she has created for herself.
You'll learn through SE Hall's words that life is too short, too unpredictable, to leave things unsaid, undone.
